Summary

In conjunction with other team members, the Peer Specialist I provides recovery facilitating services that are consistent with TSI's mission statement and guiding principles as well as the agency’s Psychiatric Rehabilitation Approach Mission statement and values. The Peer Specialist I provides services to individuals with mental health disabilities who are served in TSI’s residential and Supported Housing programs throughout Allegheny County. Under the direction of the Community Supports Program Supervisor, this individual is responsible for involving persons served in an array of recovery facilitating rehabilitation and enrichment services. This individual is also responsible for providing information on recovery and advocacy resources to staff and persons served. This person works with the Community Supports Program Supervisor and other team members to support a culture of respect and validated personhood for everyone who is affiliated with TSI. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field and six (6) months related experience or an Associate's degree in a health related field and two and a half (2 ½) years of MH, MR, or Human Service experience or a High School Diploma or GED and four and a half (4 ½) years of MH, MR or Human Services experience
  • Must be a self identified user or former user of mental health services in any setting and have a willingness to acknowledge this experience to others as appropriate
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong customer service skills
  • Ability to use core rehabilitation skills and to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to perform basic computer data entry and be comfortable traveling within the community.
